The Skills Fest

Room assignments for overnight events, with the rules built into the board

An add-on for camporees, retreats, and camps: set up cabins and rooms, then place every attendee on a drag-and-drop board that knows about capacity, gender, and youth-vs-adult.

The Skills Fest lodging add-on turns overnight housing into a visual board instead of a spreadsheet. You build your buildings and rooms — each with a capacity and optional gender (male/female/any) and occupant type (youth/adult/family/any) — then drag attendees into place. Rooms show occupancy over capacity, a full room offers a waitlist that promotes the next person automatically when a bed opens, and placing someone whose gender doesn’t match the room asks you to confirm first.

When you don’t want to place everyone by hand, auto-assign does it for you: describe any preferences in plain English and a deterministic solver keeps units together, separates by gender, prefers adult supervision, and honors who each person asked to room with — then shows you a preview before anything is saved. Rosters print by building and room or export to CSV.

How the rules behave

SituationWhat happens
Drop someone on a room with an open bedThey’re assigned; the room’s occupancy ticks up
Drop someone on a full roomYou’re offered a waitlist (or assign over capacity)
A bed opens in a room with a waitlistThe next person in line is moved in automatically
Place a boy in a girls’ cabin (or vice-versa)A confirm prompt appears before it’s allowed
A participant asks to room with a friendThe note rides along and auto-assign tries to honor it
Someone drops the event after being assignedThey’re flagged and left off the printed roster

Common questions

It’s an optional add-on, enabled per organization and then turned on for the specific events that need it — so plans without overnight events aren’t paying for it.
